If you have been following this blog, you may have noticed that it’s been awhile since my initial post. Alright, quite awhile. Okay, okay, six months to be more precise. You’re probably wondering what happened to all the excitement which accompanied that post. I wish I had a great answer but I don’t. All I can say is, I got caught up in the HOLIDAZE!!!!!

It started with the smack talking amongst friends as we neared our Annual Turkey Bowl Game, the only football game we play all year which leads to injuries and many upset significant others, and ended with my birthday at the end of February, in which I normally join the witness protection program to hide from family and friends. By the time I turned around, it was the second week of March my company, Brooklyn Star Entertainment, was still under staffed. The media packet for our play, “38″ still hasn’t been completed and my blog came to a complete stop after only one post. I was very disappointed in myself and how easily I allowed myself to be distracted which led me to my first observation.

OBSERVATION ONE

Stay Focused

This should go without saying but there is a BIG difference between knowing something intellectually and understanding it emotionally. It’s like a parent telling a child not to play in the street. It’s not until the child understands the dangers of playing in the street or the dangers of an angry parent that they eventually avoid playing in the street.

I understood staying focused on the intellectual level so much so that I had tons of reminders going off on my iPhone telling me what I had to do but I kept ignoring them because emotionally, I couldn’t get myself motivated to work and I needed to find a solution. For me the answer was a mental picture. I picture myself at 70, hair graying, glasses, tattered clothes and a cane. I don’t need the cane to walk but as an old man I plan to be pretty curmudgeonly so I use the cane to hit small children, it’s what old people do. Anyway, in this picture I’m sitting there going over how I could have done things differently in my life. Thinking about how if I had only “Insert whatever I need to do here” things could have been so different and like magic, out of nowhere I get that second wind.

I’ve told you what I’m doing to stay focused, so let me know what you do so that we can help each other.

Until my next post. May your star shine brightly.

“They’ll end up together…no matter what!”

Isn’t that how the story always goes? You have a boy, John, and a girl, Jane. The two are madly in love. There is nobody else in their world, and we, the audience, often hope that the fantasy could just end right there…then hardship strikes.

But to our keen minds, minds that have seen or heard this plot many times before, the path of the story is still vaguely visible. Subconsciously we know that through whatever adversity they must brave, whatever obstacles they must endure, there is an unwritten rule that practically guarantees that John and Jane will share a passionate embrace before the curtains close, the credits roll, or the final page is turned.

But “38” isn’t the story of John and Jane. It’s the story of Sean and Alex who we follow through a trying period in their life together. They’re young, naïve and, you guessed it, madly in love. But when Alex turns up pregnant, the two are forced to confront their own maturity. Alex doesn’t wish to proceed with the pregnancy, while Sean does – the decision he makes next could mean the end of their whirlwind romance.

38 premieres at the Orlando International Fringe Festival May 19 11:15 AM, May 20 7:15 PM, May 22 7:45, May 24 6:30 PM, May 26 12:30 PM, May 27 9 PM at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre 812 East Rollins Street Orlando, FL 32803. Tickets are on sale now. You can avoid the lines by purchasing through orlandofringe.org.

Contrary to popular belief, at least half the staff at Brooklyn Star Entertainment is functionally literate. How else would we be able to read our favorite comics?

It’s become very common, even fashionable for super hero comics to be referred to as modern mythology, and for good reason. Quick – what’s your grandmother’s birthday? Okay, what planet is Superman from? Bet we know which answer you got faster.

let’s face facts, real life is lame. The only thing your grandmother and Superman have in common is that they both like to wear belts with their underwear. Superman can stop bullets. Grandma bakes cakes. Who would you rather read about?

Brooklyn Star Entertainment will be launching an original super hero comic. The Book Page will follow character creation and plot developments for the series through interviews and blogs. You’ll be able to satisfy your inner stalker and find out what the creators eat, when they go to the bathroom and who they are sleeping with through their tweets. Discuss any and everything from your comic book theories to questions about previous issues through live developer chats.

Follow us as a new super heroic tradition—a new mythology is born! In the meantime, maybe you should look up your grandmother’s birthday, jerk! You probably missed it.

Television has changed a lot over the last twenty years. When our parents watched, they were pleased that they could watch in color. Two colors, to be specific… Black and white. We’ve got HD images so bright and sharp that it makes us want to refocus reality because the picture quality doesn’t match up. Our television has over a thousand channels and we can record the stuff we miss. Their TV had three channels and if the President was giving a speech, the night was over. Their TV was a tube-screened, box-shaped piece of furniture that weighed more than the family car. Our TV sits on the wall, with a screen flatter than Homer Simpson’s chances of becoming an underwear model. Things have changed in the world of television.

So with everything changing so rapidly in television, what is the one constant?

We all want to see our favorite characters being tested by whatever challenges they face. That’s all. Life presents us with so many obstacles and challenges, that it is a beautiful relief when we are afforded the luxury of peeking through the window of the television, into the lives of our favorite characters, only to laugh and cry along with them as they face their own.

Something that Brooklyn Star Television has experience with through working on our sitcom, “Makin’ the Grade”. The show was a fun, interactive experience for cast, crew and audience, like we’ve never seen. We do intend to apply the winning features from “Makin’ the Grade” to our next television project, which will be announced soon on this page. Once the project has been announced, this site will be going wild with photos, videos, blogs, announcements and podcasts. So please check back frequently.

It doesn’t matter if you’re watching on an old black and white artifact, or if you’re streaming HD onto your iPhone. If you’re watching Brooklyn Star Television, you are witnessing the trials and tribulations of our characters’ lives in the most genuine way that any production company is capable of revealing them. That’s what we’re all watching for, and anything beyond that is just bells and whistles. As you will see on this page, Brooklyn Star Television is bringing all of it. So stay tuned.

While guns, hot chicks and fast cars may come to mind, at Brooklyn Star Entertainment, we are committed to artistic excellence through character and story driven motion pictures that challenges the audiences’ opinions about themselves and the world around them, …with guns, hot chicks and fast cars. Just kidding about the guns, hot chicks and fast cars, kinda.

The average moviegoer is blissfully unaware of just how many people, hours and resources go into creating a film. This section of the site bulldozes the fourth wall and provides you with insider access to the development of our projects. You’ll find videos and blogs of everything from preproduction activities, to interviews with the cast and crew, to postproduction parties complete with compromising photos of BSE management. Basically, the DVD special features as they are created.

Since our highest priority when developing a film is its’ effect on our audience, it should be no surprise that your input is highly valued and appreciated. Post a comment or if you have a question, fire away. Not literally because no one likes to get burned.

Back to the original question of what it takes to make a great film, it’s you. Without you, the audience, everything we are doing here would ultimately be for nothing. If a movie is made and no one watches, is it a movie? So thank you for helping us create quality motion pictures, and thanks again for visiting Brooklyn Star Entertainment.

What is on the mind of an artist? The short answer would be hallucinogens, perhaps a trendy woolen cap, and some genuinely worrisome thoughts about venereal diseases.

The long answer involves insight into a creative process so intense it has caused some unfortunate endings for some of the most talented people in history like: dead on a toilet, dead from choking on vomit, dead from choking on a ham sandwich, the list goes on and on. But why are these artists always forgiven for embarrassing endings? Because in life they created things we love.

So before we end up dead ourselves from some random digestion-related catastrophe, here is what the Radio Page is offering: A special podcast featuring Brooklyn Star Entertainment’s amazing music partners. We’ll follow the creative process as they develop music for our upcoming projects and provide you with show dates so you know where to go when they visit your town.

There you have it – so many juicy audio tidbits, all packed nicely into a can that you can pop open any time and any place. It’s just like school lunch except you don’t have to worry about a big kid beating you up and taking it. There’s more than enough Brooklyn Star Entertainment to go around.

Are you tired of the same ole, artsy fartsy theatre? Good so is Brooklyn Star Entertainment. We’re not here to bash traditional theatre because we all understand everyone can always use a good nap but we want to create daring performance art and defy the artistic norms and boundaries of live productions.

The theatre is an entertainment experience like no other. No matter how high the definition on your flat-screen, it will never display the clarity and detail of a living, breathing actor three feet from you. Brooklyn Star Entertainment is determined to deliver that special energy created the moment an actor loses themselves to their character that can only be felt live. We are committed to providing an experience through our live performances that cannot be captured on film. No camera tricks, canned laughter or CG. This is as real as it can possibly get.

You can call us skilled, qualified or even veterans because Brooklyn Star Entertainment has been doing live performances for over a decade in a variety of venues most notably the Orlando International Fringe Festival. Some of our previous productions include…

“The Girl Next Door” a comedic look at finding love across the hall; written,

directed and produced by Brooklyn Star Entertainment’s very own J. Anthony

D’Aguiar.

“Family Values” a comedic look at the lives of three adult brothers and how they

deal with family, jobs and their dreams; written, directed and produced by J. Anthony D’Aguiar.

“The Business of Souls” is an original story, written and co-scripted by Ayal

Wolf, co-scripted and directed by J. Anthony D’Aguiar.

The Theatre Page will provide regular updates about current productions from photos of the audition process to videos of the cast parties.

If traditional theatre is what you’re interested in then we encourage thee to take thy cockered motley-minded lout to the darkest dominions of nose-upwarded boredom! But if you want to see a kick-ass play that turns your theatre seat into an emotional rollercoaster car then get ready to buy tickets to our next show.

It’s not all fun and games building an empire… Well maybe part of it is if you’re working as one of Brooklyn Star Entertainment’s Game Developers.

Gaming has evolved from friends feverishly tapping buttons at the local arcade to signing on to your favorite social networking site and helping your mom tend her virtual farm. Gaming and networking now share common ground, combining “keeping score” with “keeping in touch”.

BSE currently has a project in development that will continue the trend of “keeping score” and “keeping in touch” while taking gaming to the next level. The project announcement will be made soon. Readers will be able to follow the project through the development process via pod casts, interviews and blogs but also provide feedback through developer chats and tweets.
From keyboards to mobile phones, Brooklyn Star Entertainment will provide new and exciting ways to get your game on.
